| Thanks to the guys at
www.firstgenerationmontecarlo.com, I found my way to
the Vintage Vehicle Services section of GM of Canada.
For $35, they are sending an information packet on my
Monte Carlo Custom LS5!
Even better, for an extra few dollars, they faxed me the
"Options List" documenting my specific car, which I received a few minutes after my
call.
Click on the images to enlarge them to actual size for
reading. To the right is a thank you letter from GM
explaining that the 72 Custom 454 LS5 is very rare.
Only 138 were built at the Ontario plant.

To the left is the first
page of the Options List. I thought it might be a
"Build Sheet", as it seems to list almost every option that is on the
car.
I spent a long time trying to decide
what color to paint my Monte. In the process I got hold
of two different 1972 Chevrolet Paint Code sheets.
Click
the thumbnail images below to see them full size so you
can read the code, but be aware that these images REALLY
lose the effect of the true color, because the
iridescence and metallic effects are totally lost when
viewed over the computer monitor. However, they might
help you identify your color and provide a paint code.
For the iridescent colors, you can only get a general
idea of the basic hue.

| It was all electric, had
air conditioning and fancy lighting inside.
The page to the right gives the original tire size as
G70-15, but it doesn't list the wheel size. So that is
still a mystery.
It had a stereo AM/FM radio with the antenna in the
tinted windshield.
And that mysterious Z03 that came up as the SS
designation in the GM Corp Book for models through 1975,
evidently means Custom on the 72's. Look at the last
line...

I wonder how these options compare to what the SS had
in 70 and 71.
If anyone knows - please post to the Discussion
Board...

| After poking
around collections of Monte parts and pieces which my
husband left in five gallon buckets, I came up with this -
both Monte Carlo emblems and the extra CUSTOM emblems that go on the sail panels.
Even though this Options List above gives
both the VIN and engine number (T1026CRW) which proves my
car is what it is, it still would be nice to find the ever
elusive Build Sheet!

So it seems
that my Monte has a rare wheel cover option - the
P03 Wheel Cover - Sport. Well, all the books I can
find list a P02, and a PA3, but no P03. The PA3 wasn't
available on the 72 Custom, so that eliminates it.
After exhausting my sources of
information, I finally phoned GM of Canada again. The
representative cold not find a photo in the standard set
either, so I left him my fax number and asked him to fax a
photo if he happened to come across one, or even a
description of the P03 Sport Wheel Cover.
When I got home from work, the image on
the left was waiting form me. P03 I assume.
